TORROX
Read our guide about one of the most popular areas, Torrox.
With the official title “Best Climate in Europe”, Torrox is a fantastic destination. It is divided into two separate villages, one being Torrox Pueblo, located in the mountains, 4 km above Torrox-Costa, located on the coast. Together they have a history that stretches all the way back to ancient times. Under the name Claviclum, it existed in Roman times. You can still find some ruins that remain, such as the old bathhouse and necropolis¨. It began to take shape as we know it today, in the 7th century, with the arrival of the Moors or Berbers. They came from northern Africa and have created the white villages that are scattered throughout Andalusia. Even the name Torrox comes from the Arabic word “Turrux” or “Torrus”, meaning city defense of towers. These towers are still to be found in the narrow old parts of Torrox. So there are a lot of attractions to visit and beautiful architecture to admire.
In addition to the historical values, you will find many lovely restaurants serving all kinds of food, a lot of freshly caught fish and local vegetables. You must try the traditional grilled sardines in one of the chiringuitos (beach restaurant), which is cooked over a large glowing fireplace. Often in the form of a fishing boat. You can find everything you need on the long promenade that stretches along the local beach, in its small shops and restaurants. Torrox is a very popular tourist destination and place for expatriates to settle, yet it has retained its Spanish core and the culture has remained unchanged. You will find that the locals are very welcoming and friendly, one is always greeted with a smile. They like to welcome foreigners into their community and everyday life. With its proximity to the motorway, it is easy to take excursions to Nerja or other towns, villages and attractions. Malaga Airport is 45 minutes away. There are also a lot of nearby activities to try, such as golf, trekking, horseback riding, mountain biking, scuba diving, rock climbing and even skiing in the Sierra Nevada.
One thing is for sure, Torrox has a sea of lovely beaches that all have something unique to offer. Some extend long and flat, others rocky with the possibility of jumping into the sea from 10 meters. In other words, there is a beach for all sizes and ages.

This is a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings, eat delicious food, take a swim in the sea, look at the views of the mountains and the Mediterranean. Torrox is far from like the other popular cities on the other side of Malaga like Torremolinos, Marbella, Fuengirola and Puerto Banus. This is not a big city with a party street and noisy neighbors.
There is a diversity of properties in and around the two Torrox villages, ranging from small holiday apartments to large rural villas or “fincas” with lots of land that can be used for agriculture. There are always a good number of properties for sale or rent.
